Workshop Task- 12/14/18- Architectural Images

collage 1 collage 2

Above I have included photo’s I took around Lincoln of it’s architecture.  As you can see this mainly focuses around the high street area as well as the cathedral. Similar to the previous workshop task about portraiture, due to the gloomy weather on the day I chose to use a ISO in some in the range of 100-400. In some however, I did experiment with a higher ISO.

Workshop Task- 08/03/18 – Portrait Task

collage

This week I was tasked with going off campus and taking portrait images of people I had no previous relationship with, this led me to go into Lincoln and asking strangers if I could take their picture. Above I have included the best images I got while doing the task.I used a range of different backgrounds while walking Lincoln using different people although I made some attempt to slightly blur the background out as the main attention needed to be aimed at the subject of the image. Due to the gloomy weather on the day I ended quite a low ISO, ranging from 100-400.

Workshop Task- 01/03/18- Studio Shoot

Capture

Above I have included some of the best/my favourites from the studio shoot session we had in this weeks workshop. The idea behind it was to go further into portraiture in photography using professional equipment such as the lighting and flash reflectors. We also used a general reflector as well to help add to the images. Minimal light was used in the darker pictures through the use of a light filter alongside the use of a black back drop where you can see Sam modelled. A blue back drop with brighter light and flash was used in the pictures Jack modelled in.

Above I have included my Independent Project Intentions Form, this goes into detail about my ideas for the final project of which I have chosen to base mine around the word “Entropy”.

Workshop Task- 15/02/18 – Still Life

Capture still life

This workshop session was dedicated to Still Life Photography. We then were then placed into groups and given lighting equipment to photograph our own still life creations. The main objects we used for this activity were a lemon, a plastic dog head, a plastic fish, toy soldiers, plastic cheese and flowers. In the lemon photographs, we mainly played around with the lighting and seeing we could do with just one object and different placements and techniques of lighting, in a few of these photographs we used thick black paper and placed the small torches inside to create a darker effect which can be seen in a few of these images. In terms of the photographs we took of the fish, we went down a more Surrealistic route with the imagery and the concept as toy solider’s fighting a giant fish on a piece of plastic cheese is quite obscure, again in these images we adjusted the lighting suitably and chose the best position but also played around with the focus of the camera, mostly placing the focus on the fish.

Workshop Task – 25/1/18 – IMAGES IN THE WILD

bubbleman

The Workshop task this week was go into the city centre and look for photos used in advertising and “Appropriate” them. The image I have used here is part of a tour poster displayed outside the Lincoln Drill Hall for The Amazing Bubble Man. To “appropriate” the image I cropped out the main title, tour dates and contact information of the act and left solely the image of the old man with the bubble. I was drawn to this image as the colour effects inside the bubble have a nice contrast with the matt black background of the photo and come out nicely and clearly, this is also helped in the fact that the old man in the image is also wearing all black making it so there is no clashing with the colours.  As just mentioned the black background help the bubble stand out more clearly drawing people towards the poster/advertisement, additionally the expression on the old mans face makes it seem like an amazing experience as he seems to be shocked and in awe.

For the same workshop I also appropriated this image, this was taken from one University posters up in the Minerva building about meeting University applicants and making “friends for life”. To appropriate this image I simply cropped the main heading and University links to the pages and just left just the photo of the mugs. This image is nice as the colour scheme works well in colour harmony, the text on the mugs work well with the overall colour of the mugs and this mixed into the actual background works well to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, one which would be more than useful considering the essence of the poster.
